North Swedish Horse

The documented development of North Swedish Horse is connected with northern Sweden from the late nineteenth century. Breeders crossed regional northern horses and controlled Ardennes influence and selected the descendants for controlled draught work in farming and forestry.

Organised recording later gave the population a clearer breeding framework; an important reference point is 1909 — organized North Swedish studbook. Historic regional type and current registered breed are not always identical, so pedigree or conservation records matter more than appearance alone.

The expected build follows the breed’s original purpose: a powerful horse with substantial bone and musculature for controlled pulling power.
