Brandenburg Warmblood

The documented development of Brandenburg Warmblood is connected with Brandenburg, Germany during the middle of the twentieth century. A planned breeding programme used regional mares, Trakehner, Hanoverian and Thoroughbred lines and selected the descendants for athletic riding and sport.

Organised recording later gave the population a clearer breeding framework; an important reference point is integration into the German Sport Horse breeding programme. Historic regional type and current registered breed are not always identical, so pedigree or conservation records matter more than appearance alone.

The expected build follows the breed’s original purpose: an athletic riding horse with balance, scope and efficient movement. There can be meaningful variation between lines, sexes and individual horses. Conformation is best assessed in relation to sound movement, workload and the intended discipline.
