The documented development of Pampa Horse is connected with Brazil during the middle of the twentieth century. Related working populations, including spotted saddle horses from several Brazilian breeding populations, were brought under a more formal breed definition focused on reliable saddle work.

Organised recording later gave the population a clearer breeding framework; an important reference point is Associação Brasileira dos Criadores do Cavalo Pampa. Historic regional type and current registered breed are not always identical, so pedigree or conservation records matter more than appearance alone.
