What the identity fields mean, what Equihorn checks and what it does not, and what to ask a seller before you travel.
Listing fields
What the identity data tells you
UELN
The Universal Equine Life Number identifies the horse across European studbooks and lets you match the horse to its papers.
Microchip
The chip number should match the passport. Ask the seller to scan the horse while you are there.
Passport
The equine passport records identity, ownership history and medication status. Ask to see the original document, not a photo of it.
Pedigree
Sire and dam lines say something about aptitude. They say nothing about this horse's training, soundness or temperament.
Pre-purchase exam
A vetting is commissioned by the buyer and describes one moment in time. An older report is a starting point, not a verdict.
Before you travel
What to ask the seller
- Why is the horse for sale?
- Who has ridden it in the last six months, and at what level?
- Has it had time off, and what was the reason?
- How does it behave in traffic, loading, with the farrier and the vet?
- Which results exist, and where can they be verified?
- Is a vetting welcome, and which clinic does the seller suggest?
- What is included in the price — tack, transport, passport transfer?

What Equihorn verifies and what it does not
Equihorn is an advertising platform. We publish what the seller enters, keep the format consistent across listings and give sellers a public profile so you know who you are talking to. We do not inspect horses, verify ownership, hold money or arrange transport. A seller profile tells you who the seller is — not that the horse is as described.
