Zweibrücker

The documented development of Zweibrücker is connected with Zweibrücken and Rhineland-Palatinate-Saar, Germany from the middle of the eighteenth century. A planned breeding programme used regional mares and successive European riding-horse lines at the state stud and selected the descendants for athletic riding and sport.

Organised recording later gave the population a clearer breeding framework; an important reference point is 1755 — foundation of Zweibrücken State Stud. Historic regional type and current registered breed are not always identical, so pedigree or conservation records matter more than appearance alone.

The expected build follows the breed’s original purpose: an athletic riding horse with balance, scope and efficient movement.
