Czech Sport Horse (CS)
Continues the former Slovak Warmblood studbook, maintained since 2023 by the Czech Sport Horse breeders' association (Svaz chovatelů CS koní v ČR).
Also known as: Czech Sport Horse, Slovak Warmblood bred in the Czech Republic, Slovak Warmblood, CS
Uses
Origin and history
The CS studbook was established in the Czech Republic in 1995 for the Slovak Warmblood bred there. The breeders’ association has managed it since 2002. On 5 June 2023 the Czech Ministry of Agriculture approved the breeding programme and the name Czech Sport Horse. The existing studbook continued under the abbreviation CS. It is a separate studbook from the Czech Warmblood (ČT).
Conformation
The breeding programme calls for an elegant, harmonious riding horse with good muscling, correct legs and energetic, ground-covering movement. At age three, it specifies minimum withers heights of 161 cm for stallions and 159 cm for mares. For mature horses it gives upper limits of 175 cm and 172 cm respectively, with the studbook council assessing taller animals individually. These are breeding criteria, not measurements guaranteed for every horse. All coat colours are permitted.
Temperament and uses
The breeding goal is a rideable, willing and reliable horse with an even temperament. Selection focuses particularly on show jumping, dressage and eventing, while also allowing ordinary riding. Individual temperament and suitability depend on the horse’s training, health and experience.
Pedigree and health checks
Check the horse’s identity against the CS studbook, and review its documents, pedigree and available health and performance records. Arrange an independent pre-purchase veterinary examination suited to the intended use.
